Lemon Blueberry Cake

lemon-blueberry-cake

I wish I was a baker. The thought of mixing ingredients that look exactly alike (a.k.a flour, baking powder and baking soda) makes me crazy. Casseroles and other baked dishes I have in the bag. Baking a cake? Not so much.

That’s why I’m so happy when I have friends that can bake cupcakes, cakes and pies without batting an eye. Leela is one of these people and she is awesome at it (she’s also from Dallas so she is upgraded to one of my favorite people).

Check out this Lemon Blueberry Cake recipe she made (adapted from Cooking Classy blog).

what the hills y’all: mission food tour

What the Hills Y’all: Adventures of a Texas girl living in San Francisco

Have you ever been on a food tour? I’ve never been on one, but since I live in San Francisco in a mecca of food comas, I thought it would be great to take my mom and sister on one while they were in town. san-francisco-food-tour I’ve always been somewhat of a foodie, and living here gives me an overwhelming amount of choices that any diet plans can be thrown out the window in one bite. So while my husband and I are trying to find our next favorite food spot, and my mom and sister in town, we decided to embark on a food adventure which promised to fill our bellies with San Francisco deliciousness. Start your drooling… san-francisco-food-tour Our roughly 3 hour Mission North Food Tour with Explore San Francisco started with hot dogs with sauerkraut and continued through empanadas, tapas, southern cuisine, chocolate and ended with ice cream. We left with our bellies so full we didn’t mind the 20 minute walk back home. san-francisco-food-tour san-francisco-food-tour san-francisco-food-tour san-francisco-food-tour With the abundance of culture, warm sun shining and not a cloud in sight, the wind was the only thing that reminded us of the San Francisco weather (and that maybe we should’ve brought a jacket!). san-francisco-food-tour I would highly recommend this tour to anyone either visiting San Francisco, or looking to find a new spot. We bookmarked some restaurants I can’t wait to go back to (talking about you Chile Lindo and SouthPaw!)

Restaurants Covered:

4505 Meats

Chile Lindo (empanadas)

SouthPaw BBQ

Bi-Rite Creamery

Dandelion Chocolate

Picaro (tapas)

What the Hills Y’all: An Ice Cream Sandwich Date

What the Hills Y’all: Adventures of a Texas girl living in San Francisco

date-night

Do you have a favorite ice cream flavor? Growing up in Texas we had a Baskin’ Robbins near our house and the bubblegum flavor was always my pick. I would pick out the mini pink square gum bites and eat them separately. Back then, the only ice cream sandwiches we got were the ones at Walgreens that were chocolate rectangles with vanilla ice cream (remember those?).

As members of HowAboutWe, an online service that has dates designed for couples, we decided to go on an ice cream sandwich date on a lazy Saturday afternoon in Cow Hollow. San Francisco is serious about their ice cream.

Over The Moon does custom ice cream sandwiches, with flavors like honey lavender (my current favorite), ginger, mocha almond crunch and banana (that tasted like the banana laffy taffy, so good!). They also have homemade cookies like oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip (Justin’s favorite).

The date included a flight of 3 big ice cream sandwiches, one for each of us, and then one to share. I got an oatmeal raisin cookie with honey lavender ice cream, and Justin got chocolate chip with mint chocolate chip ice cream. We sat down in the small sitting area while we waited for our sandwiches to be made.

Not being the big planners that we are, we hadn’t eaten dinner. So we decided to walk around Cow Hollow (which strangely reminds me of Dallas) , get a pizza, and then come back to get our third sandwich to go. The staff there were so nice and excited to help us pick out a winning combo (snickerdoodle cookie with banana ice cream!!).

It’s been really fun exploring the city with dates made for two. We’ve done a cider beer tasting date as well as a walking tour. Check it out if they have it in your area!
